Was anyone else at this show? I went with five of my friends for the 8:00 set, which we liked so much that we stuck around for the 10:00 set. In between sets we got to meet Abraham Burton, Jaleel Shaw and Sue Mingus, all of whom were very nice and very tolerant of stupid teenaged kids and stupid questions.

What a band!

The only disappointment was that the bari chair was filled by Lauren Sevian, not Ronnie Cuber. She was good, but, IMO, she could have played with a little more power, particularly on "Moanin." She was still great though, so it was ok.

I can't wait until I get another chance to see them.

Aw you're lucky. I'd love to see the Mingus Big Band, although I would have shared your disappointment about the absence of Ronnie Cuber. Cuber is fantastic.

I've heard them twice. Once at Ronnie Scott's in London, and once here in Seattle at the Paramount Theatre. Both times were amazing, though the Paramount one is kind of a blur because it was like 5 years ago and I wasn't too into jazz then. Seamus was playing lead tenor at that date, though.

They're an amazing group!

I met Gary Smulyan at this local jazz camp a couple summers ago.
