What mouthpiece do you use on a 66R tenor? I have one on order and would like to have an idea of what mouthpiece to use on it. Will a JJ ESP or a Barone Jazz work?
Thanks in advance

I testplayed the P. Mauriat 66R with a Barone 7* and Zonda 3 reeds. The sound was wonderful and I guess it doesn't get much darker & lusher than that!

I have tried it with;
Charles Bay 7,
JJ ESP,
JJ DV,
Vandoren V16 T75

My thoughts:
In my small amounto f playing time on each, the DV was the best, hands down. The ESP was the second best, it has a nice sound like a link, but something about wasn't a perfect match. The Bay was as safe and trusty as always, but nothing spectacular. And the Vi6 was amazingly bright and the complete opposite of this sax's tendancies. Ewwwwwww! (in layman's terms).

All of this is IMHO, my personal tastes.

Too bad I traded my DV away. I'll see what works when the horn gets here, and may have to buy another DV.

I also tried a 66R w/ a JJ DV, along with my Link 7. I've always liked the link, but the DV blew much more freely and the tone was gorgeous. I've got a 66R on order, and I expect I'll be buying a DV the day I pick it up.:D
