I bought a Heimer to use as a parts horn.
If you're ever tempted to do this, you should know that it's not a good idea.
It looks like the molds were filled with gunk - all the molded pieces are much smaller than they should be, and kind of rounded off. Very strange, and very sad.
I wasn't expecting much out of it otherwise, but it's even worse than I could have imagined. Instead of being jammed together like the rods were too long, there's as much as a quarter inch of play in most of the longer rods on this one. Everything's really sloppy and many of the keys run into each other. Some keys can't be depressed because there's not enough room for the travel; other won't open all the way because they run into the rods.
