View Full Version : Best HR Link Copy?

So, which HR Link copy is best? Yeah, I know, depends on what you mean by best. I have one of the Kessler OL7 pieces and, although it plays alright, it's not as responsive as I'd like.
I've seen posts about the Rast copies that have a little baffle in them. Maybe this is what I need to try. Who carries them?
Any other suggestions.

Morry, I have a Rast that I play on my P. Mauriat. The Rast J plays like I thought Links should play like. I would have to say this is the best sound I've ever had on tenor. Tim over at Sax Alley carries Fred Rast mouthpieces, and frankly his prices are better than if you bought it from Rast himself. I guess the advantage of buying direct would be to have Fred customize it just for you; Fred probably has more selection as Tim only has a couple in his stock at any given moment.

Morry, if it's a response issue with the Kessler, why don't you just have Mojobari (http://www.saxontheweb.net/vbulletin/member.php?u=9180) or Merlin (http://www.saxontheweb.net/vbulletin/member.php?u=9244) tweak the facing?

...my thoughts exactly. I'm now frequently playing a piece that I never thought I'd like at all (after Mojo got done with it).

I have not seen a Lamberson Link-style piece. But I would expect them to be excellent based on the few modern baffle Lambersons I've seen.
The L7 is wonderful - first mouthpiece that has me rethinking my devotion to my J8. Yes, do consider a Lamberson in your Link-like (only better) quest.
A properly set-up rubber Link is hard to beat - Doc Tenney, Ted Klum, Adam Niewood all do great work with Links.
However, the Lamberson L and J mouthpieces are something special - very unique mouthpieces...

Morgan L's are great alternative to links. I think that if you can get a rubber link that has been hand finished you would be in great shape as well.
