I've owned a green and gold Monique tenor (yes, eBay purchase) for a little over a year. I have no problem with it's playability or tone. I could see how experienced players would not like it, but I like it as a beginner into the world of saxophones.

The sound seems to depend greatly on what reed you use, there are some slight intonation problems, and the lowest 3 notes have a tendency to kind of fart out, but the way I see it, I dont see how a better player would be able to make it sound decent.

I've been playing electric bass for years, and I've learned one important thing: 90% of the tone is the MUSICIAN, NOT the instrument.

Nice. I own a green and gold Monique alto (another E-bay purchase). I love her. I have only played for two years and since I''ve had her since the first day of band class she's okay. I have the same problem though. The C and low B seem just to "squak out". I would really recommend a Monique for beginning saxophonists.
