Yes, there are synthetic and clear plastic "reeds". Some players like them, others don't. I find them to be stronger than cane reeds.
I use a Fibracell soft on clarinet, but regular cane on my saxophones. The synthetic Fibracells are expensive but they last a lot longer than do cane reeds. The trouble is that you may have to buy a few in various strengths to determine which one you like. DAVE

There are several threads in this section of the Forum about various brands of synthetic reeds. If you spend some time going through them you should get a good amount of information. Like Dave said, some players like synthetic reeds and others don't -- it's like anything regarding musical equipment. I, personally, have come to like Legere reeds on clarinet and saxophone. For me, it's closer to the sound of a good cane reed than any other synthetic reed that I've tried. Prior to trying Legere, I couldn't stand the sound I got with a synthetic reed. So, for me to switch from cane to Legere was a big deal.
Legere regular cut clarinet and saxophone reeds are based on the profile of the Vandoran Traditional reed. Whereas, the Legere Quebec clarinet reed (thicker cut) is based on measurements of the Vandoran V12. There is a Legere Studio saxophone reed. For me, it's along the lines of an Alexander Superial (yellow box) reed. It's brighter and easier blowing than the Legere regular cut reed. But, I prefer the darker sound of the regular cut on saxophone. On clarinet I use the Quebec reed.
In the final analysis, it all comes down to what YOU are looking for in your sound and the response of your set up.

Technically, all reeds are "non wooden". Reeds are made from cane, which is a grass, not a tree. Note: cane is not bamboo!
If you're interested in trying a synthetic reed, try the BARI brand reed. These have been around for a long time, and have a lot of loyal users (me included). Besides, they're the least expensive quality synthetic reed available. $6.95 from www.wwbw.com.

The plasticovers seem good, and the Legere. The Legere webpage says they are guaranteed or your money back. Maybe a good way to try.
I've only ever tried a Rico plasticover once, which didn't affect my allergies to wood. You may find these suitable.
