Hey Guys,
I video taped myself this morning playing 5 different mouthpieces. I put them on my computer and cut them up in segments so I could email them. I couldn't figure out how to seperate video from audio so I will have to send both. 5 clips about 1MB each MPEG format. I played a loose MY One And Only Love and tried to keep it similar for each cut. I tried to make the bridge a bit funkier so you could hear the piece in that setting.
1. Barone Jazz 8
2. HR Florida Link 7*
3. Metal Florida link with JVW reface and small baffle .112
4. Jodyjazz ESP .120
5. Vandoren V16 T75
I don't know if you can here a difference due to the quality of the recording. Let me know what you think of the differences if you can here them and what you like. If you want to hear them email me at jazzsax@attbi.com

Well I don't think this will work now. I just listened to them after converting them to email format and they all sound the same. The original video quality you can tell the difference but whaen it's change for email it suffers.I'll see if I can do better quality but then it will take up more memory so only cable and DSL people could get them. I'll see what I can do. Nefertiti

Rats, 30 fps is alot better but one clip comes out to 20.5 MB. I'm gonna have to figure out if I can seperate the audio. I'll get back to everyone. If you know how to perhaps do this let me know. I'm learning as I go.

This is gonna take more time than I have right now. Anyone know how I can just downlaod the audio from a digital video camera without the video.?

Well I finally figured it out Thanks to Bill Mecca leading me in the right direction. I sent out the clips to 4 people that responded. I'll wait to hear back from them. If they can hear a difference in the clips I'll send out some more if they lose to much in the process of getting them to mp3 size I'll work on it and let you know when I get better quality.

I got my first email back from a player that said he could hear a distinct difference in the pieces. If anyone else wants to take a listen send me an email and I'll send you the clips.

Just a tip for those of you I'm sending these to. Use headphones! It makes a world of difference in hearing more of the characteristics of the mouthpieces.

Guys,
A few of you that I tried to send these to I got a error message back that your mail quota was exceeded. There are 5 files that are 1-2 MB each. Make sure your mail server will except this many large emails. I've had success with about 90 % of those sent, I just wanted you to be aware of this . Thanks

Hi Steve
Firstly, u sound great man! 8) - on all of them - I'm going home to practice!
My opinions:
Ranked darkest to brightest: barone, JJ ESP, HR link, T75, Florida metal Link
My favourite - easy... the ESP, dark, warm, expressive, strong sound, can hear its easy to play, but with enough resistance. Next best for me... the HR link....i'd gues you've played this a lot? sounds very comfortable. The barone did nothing for me, bit harsh, raspy/stuffy. The florida link was nice, but bit bright for me and lacked something of the character of the ESP. The T75 - similar to the metal link for me...very nice, u might try a t95 for more body??
I like darker sounds... so i may be biased, but if it were my choice, I'd play the ESP (in fact I may just buy one myself - anyone selling?)
thanks for this....take it easy...
:p

This is like Star Search for mouthpieces. I'll have you in the Worldwide sax community decide what I play on. Goodness knows I can't decide  So far we have
2 votes Barone
1 Vote ESP
1 vote HR link
Keep the opinions coming. You guys are actually hearing alot more than I thought you would from the recording. Thanks

Paul S,
I'd settle for a free ESP alto piece!!
I agree 100%.... the ESP followed by the HR Link were my top two. I may be biased, because I just received shipment of my new ESP yesterday, but it sounded the best by FAR. I did notice that you sounded more comfortable on the Link though. Play more often on that one?? Anybody considering the ESP... take my word on it... GO FOR IT!! You've got nothing to lose with Jody's money back offer. The piece didn;t work for me initally, but I've made a baffle for it out of wax that makes it sound awesome for me. Feel free to check out my thread title "just got my new ESP" or something to that effect.

Definitely a nice sound on all the pieces but for my tastes I would rank the HR Link as the number 1 choice followed closely by the ESP. I thought you definitely had a fuller, more robust sound on the ESP but the HR link just had a very lush tone that I found smooth and easy to listen to. The Barone seemed a bit "Tubby". While still a good piece it wasn't the one you sounded the most comfortable on. Add another vote for the HR Link!
