hi:
i have a pan american tenor, serial 58,xxx. was curious as to its age or approximate date of manufacture. previous posts here have told me that the pan american serial number information is lost.
check out the pictures of this horn if you think you can help!

One site says to add 50,000 to the serial number and then compare to a Conn list, but I have found that to be inaccurate for some. I don't know when P-A disappeared but I am guessing around 1955 or so when the Director line came about. Judging from Conn models, yours would have to be in the1934-55 range as a guess. I does look pretty nice! I would compare the side F# and LH pinky cluster with some Conns on saxpics.

I would say its late 50,s with that large aux F# , nice looking horn

Late 50's based on a comparison with Conn's.
Is that original laquer - it looks in great shape.

yes... it is in very nice shape, and it wears its original lacquer. As far as i can tell, it has its original conn resopads too, and is actually playing really well on them.
it plays really well. big, even, lush. thanks for the help... although i don't know how much closer i am to identifying its age...somebody says thirties...someone else says fifties... do i hear the 1940's any one?;)
regards,
steve

Could be 40's with the round ring type octave neck vent . PAN AM's were a different line from the 10m,s so direct comparrisons are out of the question. Its still a fine horn.
