Looking for feedback on these mouthpieces. I've checked Lamberson's website and looking for feedback from players who have played his baritone mouthpieces. I know three models are available - M, SB and DD. All comments will be most welcome.

I've used Lamberson bari pieces for a looooong time now.
I used to use Guardala metal, BUT..I Lamberson stuff for me was just WAY more happening facing wise...and WAY more NOW for what I was lookin' to do with my sounds.
I use the 8DD wood or 7dd hard rubber.
The day I drove to Fred's place in Calif. with my adult pro-student Celia..Fred had 24 Bari pices just hanging out.Waiting to be played.
His comments were great to.." Do ya want more LeRoy Hog Cooper in it or a lot of Brignola stuff". Sonically I knew exactly what he meant!
"Hog" has that -to die for- section sound I love...via the old Ray Charles bands with Fathead and Hank. Hes also an amazing jazz solist to WHEN the time comes. ( check out Buster Smiths CD on Atlantic..if you don't know WHO Buster Smith IS , then you better go find out now!! )
Anyhow- THe DD is hippest for me..on bari...cuz I hate to futz with Bari reeds. And- do NOT use anything but cane.
The mouthpiece got enuf guts to fill the bottom OF ANY section..yet the pitch is spot on. BTW-Lamberson himself is a great bari player !!
So....I'd say start with a DD or SB. Your gonna love them!!!!

I'm with Tim here, I discovered the 8DD about a year ago, this is an incredible mpc. It is the loudest, most flexible, most dynamic mpc I have ever found for a Baritone. This coupled with a 12M Tranny is capable of underpinning a big band like no other mpc I have ever played. It will also sail over the top of the big band in full cry in all registers (even the middle register). It is also an excellent small group soloist mpc too.
I have used Lawtons, Quantums, RPCs, Morgans, Selmers, Yani metals, modified specialty mpcs but the best all round mpc I have yet played on the Conn Baritone is the Lamberson 8DD. This mpc works best on Low Bb Baris too, it doesn't perform anywhere nearly as well on the Low A's I have played it on. (Mk vi's, Magna's, Taiwanese models, Yanis) If you were using one of these low A models then I would recommend the SB or M chamber models.

I recently acquired a 7SB. I had been using a Berg Larsen for years playing King Zephyr Bb baris...I got an A bari (King Tempo/Keilwerth stencil) and the Berg just didn't work. The Lamberson 7SB roars...difference is night and day. The two pieces are much more similar on the King!!

Bootman,
I have a Selmer MkVI Baritone with a low A. Should the Lamberson SB give me a bigger, more gusty sound than the 110 RPC I'm currently playing. I really love the kind of sound Ronnie Cuber gets.
Thanks,
Ed

Both are great playing mpcs and if I was in your position then I would be starting with a SB model. The 8DD I have here is great on the Conn Tranny but it is less than ideal on the Magna Low A, it never played particularly well on the Selmer Low A I had here either. It was ok on a JK I tried it on but it plays best on the Conn.
Best of luck in your hunt and I hope this can be of some use to you!

I just picked up a 7DD and played it in a loud jam last night, had a blast. Very easy playing, I can tell I have a way to go exploring this piece but I'm surprised how easy it was to jump in with it and wail. Amazing tonal flexibility, from what I'm used to. Very cool.

Which is more flexible and able to play ballads as well as roar? The Lamberson SB or RPC 110?

Bootman will have to answer that. The 7DD can definitely be played dark and subtoney but, for me, is somewhat bright by nature.

Ballads can be played with the brightest of mouthpieces...what is important is that there is a core to the sound that can be used expressively. I have played a few Lambersons, but mostly the SBs...they can be played quite flexibly.

I find the 8DD to be very flexible Dark when required and thunderous when necessary plus all the colours in the middle. It is too powerful for reqular classical ensemble playing, youwould bury the rest of the ensemble without even trying.
The 7DD marked F maj7 model I got here was less than perfect, the rails were out so I have sent it off to get balanced and tweaked. I'll know more about this when it returns.

I played my 7DD the other night with an un-amplified classical guitarist, and was able to whisper out little things that were completely fitting into the dynamic range of the guitar. What a pleasant surprise...the flexibility just keeps on coming!

Think of it as a flute head joint 8)
Its that complex, yet...that simple.
Cuber BTW has checked many Lambersons and dug them, but
his Francois is his main. Hes not a change-ish dude anyhow.
Great guy tho Ronnie..I learned a lot from him. Hes a natural!!!
Brignola before he passed, had tried my 8dd in wood and 8dd
in rubber and was into getting them..but got ill.
I think they are amazing. The CHAMPION of mouthpieces, as my
student from Asia sais often

So Tim I'm wondering you've played an FMaj7 bari piece yet?

(Or anyone..)
I got one from Fred that he felt was too dark for his taste, but I've been digging it anyway. Real solid on the bottom, and my horn, '54 Martin with noyeks, picks up whatever brightness a mouthpiece does have, so it actually should be a real nice alternate to my DD, for what seems to me a more vintage sort of sound, kin'a big'n'strong and roundish. I've really just started playing it, took me a few times to get used to it - pretty much no baffle in there.
Mouthpieces are too much fun.
Fortunately I'm outa money:)
