Has anyone tried one of those Bari brand WTII tenor mouthpieces? It is supposed to be a copy of a well liked facing on a vintage Otto Link(so says the ad). I was wondering about its sound quality, ease of playing(resistance) and if it was any better than, say, a modern STM or NY STM. The price is right with WWBW($99.00 for the 7* size). I did a search which didn't produce much.

I know that some people speak harshly of them but the two I have tried were very good. A little hotter and more live then a Link, a little more edge and volume. Great for playing with electric instruments at reasonable volumes. Very simliar also to my Barone Standard, his cheapo model but also far better then your average current production link in my experience.

Check the archives and see Doc Tenney's posts on the piece. He has one in his shop. As Doc says, except for being made of brass the WTII has nothing in common with a Link. The one I saw was so poorly finished, I couldn't believe it made it out of the factory.

Come on now, Doc, don't sugarcoat it. How do you really feel about them? :D

I agree that that particular bit of advertising seems a bit misleading. The WTII certainly doesn't remind me of an Wolf Tayne-related mouthpieces that I've seen.

Still, if it plays well for you, that's what counts. What's in a name?

Favorite unattributed quote: "What do you mean "Don't judge a book by it's cover"? That's what it's there for."

I had an alto one of the same model and it layed very well, just wasn't the thing for me. There was nowt wrong with it, though.

I've nearly bought one a few times from Tim at Sax Alley. For me the WTII played a lot like the SR Tech Pro, Yani 7M, and Vandoren V16 but at less then 1/2 the price of any of them. If I was seriously shopping for a piece I probably would have chosen the Bari just based on price. The Yani is the piece I've been playing the most lately and though I liked all of the ones I mentioned none of them sound different enough from what I already have to justify buying.

As always YMMV.
