Recently, I've been playing and performing with a Meyer 6M Alto mpc and have found that the sound to me has been better than the Super Session in my opinion. Are their any reed suggestions for the Meyer 6M? Looking for a sound suitible for jazz.

What's wrong with the V16 3's you've been using? I use Java 3's and 3.5's on my 5M... 3's on a 6M would probably be perfect for ME, so it might work for you, too.

I was just wondering if anything would work better, cause I have heard good reviews about the Rico Jazz Selects..

I find that with each player, each mouthpiece, and each ligature, that there is a suitable reed that will give you the sound and response that you are looking for. The problem with reeds is that they are so inconsistent. In my opinion, the vandoren brand is the most consistent reed that is at a reasonable price. I noticed that you are using them as your current setup so I would recommend starting from the vandorens. Check out the javas, v16s, and zzs on that meyer and see which one you like better. We are talking about a lot of money here but that is what it takes. If you dont find anything you like in the vandorens, I would suggest checking out the rico jazz select but then again, that is solely my opinion.

I dont like lavoz or hemke so much for jazz, but you should try some superials or gaurdala's if you can find them. That would be the next step up in my opinion.

Try the simplest approach. Try a box of V16's at the 2.5 strength. The softer reed should give a better jazz tone. It works for me on tenor and sop. On tenor I was using 3's of V16 and ZZ for quite a while. I like the ZZ for melodic work and the V16 for jazz.

Saxproof, I've found that Alexander DC's are great for jazz.. I play on a meyer 6m refaced by ralph morgan, and alexander 3 1/2's. The problem with the alexander's is that you will have to work on them a lil to get all five to play like you want them, me not being a guy who really works on reeds I don't like to, but I've found that the alexanders are probably the best when it comes to personalizing the reed to how you feel you should sound when playing on them.. They give you the chance to have a wide spectrum of tonal imagination in my opinion, it may work for you or it may not but that's been my experience with the meyer 6m..

Hope this info helps you some..

Saxproof, I agree with you. I had a Meyer 6M and a Selmer SS but sold the SS. I've been very happy with LaVoz in the Meyer, but Alexander DCs and Rico Select Jazz also work well.

When I was playing a Meyer 6M, mainly as lead in a big band, I used LaVoz mediums and they worked well for me. Also, for some reason, LaVoz are just really reliable for me regardless of mpc or instrument. I had bad luck with Alexanders, but that's just me. You should try them.

Recently tried a box of Vandoren ZZ's, and they seem to be the most consistently playable reeds I've tried in a long time. A little buzzy sounding, but that may help compenste for bland tone of a Meyer...

Yeah I agree with gary, lavoz are pretty sweet, they were just had a lil too much edge to them, but I think their great.. You would just have to try a bunch and see what you come up with.. These are jus references however, what you finally decide is up to you... Try lavoz and alexander DC's..
