I just joined a newly forming rock band that plays classic rock. I'm having a tough time finding sheet music that includes the horn parts. The online searches, even for full scores, usually exclude the horn parts that are heard in the commercial recordings.

Partial playlist:
* "In the Midnight Hour" (Robbie Williams)
* "You Can Leave Your Hat On" (Joe Cocker)
* "She Came In Through the Bathroom Window" (Joe Cocker)
* "Cold Day in Hell" (Gary Moore)
* "Bitch" (Rolling Stones)
* "I Just Want to Celebrate" (Rare Earth)
* "Money" (Pink Floyd)
* a lot of Allman Brothers stuff
* Plus at least 3 dozen more songs

I tried to download MIDIs & put them in notation software, but the horn parts are usually mixed into a single synth line, which means it could take quite a while to correctly split it into the appropriate sections. I'm sure there must be tons of people out there with book shelves or hard drives full of notated "classic rock" horn parts. Jazz scores are so easy to find. What's the deal with ROCK?? Does anybody out there have a clue where I can find these parts?

I used to play in Rock bands in the '70s and early '80s. Everyone had to do their home work, transcribe or otherwise learn their own parts by ear. I don't think things have changed much since then. If there are other horn players get together and make it a group effort.

I second Frankbiff's comments. I currently play in a blues/rock band. When we do covers that have well known horn lines, I transcribe them from the original recording.

I've looked into trying the same thing you describe from midi files, and have encountered the same problem. I found it was less time consuming to just transcribe the lines myself.

If transcribing is new to you, you might want to start by trying to transcribe a solo or horn lines in a ballad. For example, Son of a Preacher Man by Dusty Springfield, is a slow song that has very distinguishable horn lines.

It takes time to learn this skill, but it is a valuable one to have.
