Where did you learn that the Sugal saxes are made by Anigua Winds? Are they exactly the same?

Antigua / Sugal?? Well, I really could be wrong, but when I saw the Sugal pics of the soprano with the high G key, it reminded me so much of the Antiqua so I went to their web site and they had one with a G key as well, plus the key work looked identical in the pictures. Now I'm told that the high "G" key has been around awhile ...so maybe I'm all wet.

Gary Sugal said: We simply took some of the best attributes of the Selmer and Keilwerth and incorporated them into this model. So I this is not a stencil of anything. Wonder how it sounds?

I don't believe what Sugal says, certainly not sufficiently to say it isn't just any old Taiwanese horn with his name on it. After all, what saxophone are most far eastern horns based on, anyway? The Mark VI, its the prototype for most saxophones. And where were Sugal series I and II?

Let's hope he has at least one horn marked 'Series I' and at least one horn marked 'Series II' stashed away in his basement or somewhere. :P

In his basement? Why, surely they are in use the world over in the hands of the worlds' top players!

LOL. I just noticed this line in his eBay auctions: "Case and Mouthpiece Not Included". That is over the top.

Nope. There are many of different sax factories in Taiwan. Antigua has their sopranos made at the Ping factory. There current model series are copies of Yanagisawa's (based off of a S991 design) and the Ping factory makes these sopranos exclusively for Antigua.
Now Sugal may very well be buying a soprano from the Ping factory but it wont be the same horn that Antigua has. Sugal may be buying from the factory that I have my CR Kessler altos and tenors made at. They make a very good soprano but I stopped doing my CR Kessler sopranos once we played Antigua's newest line.

My guess from looking at his pics and his spiel suggestd to me maybe the same factory as the Keilwerth ST series is made in. 'Snake Oil Inc' or some such name.
