If i want to put a song from my minidisc onto my PC, what is the procedure?
I was told to "Plug the minidisc into the sound card" but what would that involve doing?

Probably the only way is to use the audio out (earphone socket) into the 'line in' of your sound card - likely next to the microphone in socket. You will need a stereo 3.5 mm lead.

Use Wavelab, Cooledit, Goldwave etc.... You willneed to record it in real time unless you MD has an optical line out and your computer sound card has digital in.

Would the standard Windows SOund Recorded work if i changed the input to Line IN instead of mic?

Yes, it should work. Hopefully you've already tried that.
I have 4 (!) MD units myself. I strongly recommend getting a component unit for home use and saving the little portable for remote recording/personal listening.
I have a Sony 630 which has a digital output and a PC keyboard input jack for titling.
I can dump directly into my computer, or run it to a standalone CD recorder.
I actually did the original recording for a video production on MD...

One thing to be aware of is that the Sony NetMD MD Walkmen do NOT allow digital output, that is to say you have to use the analog (headphones) output, as outlined above, rather than send a digital file to the PC. Very annoying as there must be some degradation of quality and you lose any titling you may have done.

Merlin, that's what i'd idealy love to have, but they're so expensive, and being a high school student with next to no income, it's very hard for me to get that sorta stuff.
Thanks for the tips, i just need to get a lead that will fit, anyone know anywhere online that will sell them? Rather than have the hassle of going and asking for something i don't even know what it looks like.

Ask for a 3.5 stereo jack to 3.5 stereo jack lead, you can get this at any Hi-Fi or electronics shop. They are a common lead.

The cable really looks like a headphone cable. It will be the same size on both ends...1/8 in. headphone-type plugs. Just look at your headphones and picture a cable with the same ends on it.
