Especially the live samples from Up over Café, Brooklyn. Well the sound quality are not that god, but he has huge fat sound. Anyone know his setup?
:D Right on bro....this guy has a nice full sound 8) . Thanks for bringing him to our attention. Sorry but I don't know anything about his setup. Hopefully others out there will tune into this post and give us some skinny on his setup. 8)
Marcus Strickland is a serious player, and a nice guy! He's playing on a Morgan Excalibur and a Mark VI tenor - not sure what reeds, though.

I just found Marcus Strickland plays on some tracks of the 2001 Lonnie Plaxico Blue Note CD Mélange. A fine player indeed!

I have both of his CDs and am really inspired by his phat phat phat time feel. His groove is nasty and his lines are killing. Big fat sound. But, mostly, I really dig Strickland's compositions and the vibe he creates with his quartet. They get into a certain vibe/space/world that I really appreciate as a listener and strive to ascertain as a player. And, it is great that he presents his lives MP3s on his website so all us NON-NYC people can get a taste of the spirit of the live shows out there. Looking forward to listening to more Marcus and band in the future....

I caught Marcus at the Playboy Jazz Festival in June at the Hollywood Bowl. He was playing with Roy Haynes and knocked me out. Big sound and was really saying something with his horn. I made a point of chasing down some of his stuff as a result of that show. Check this out: others on stage throughout the day included Chris Potter, Ernie Watts, Pete Christlieb and Tom Scott. Marcus was right in there with them doing his own thing. Another highlight of the day: Potter and the rest of the Dave Holland quintent just about fell off the stage when Hef took arrived front and center with 11 female genetic lottery winners. Seriously, check out Marcus!
