I just bought a meyer 10 tenor mouthpiece. What do you think of them? Are they bright/dark?

More important is your opinion. How you sound on a meyer 10 and how we sound is totally different. They are generally warm sounding similar to a rubber Link and good for jazz/big band. I know of a player using a Meyer on a conn tenor and his sound is huge. it's what works for you that counts.

Conntenor,

I just read your comments. I bought a Meyer hard rubber #8-medium chamber at the suggestion of a former instructor. I was new to the instrument and was really trying to develop an ombrochure. The instructor insured me that this piece was definitely the way to go for awhile. I received the piece from Music123.com and have played it now for almost a year. I honestly can say I like its sound in the lower registers, particular with Rico Plasticover 3 or Fibracell 2.5 or 3 reeds. However, when I play the piece with LaVoz mediums, Rico Royales 3 or Vandoren Java 3.5s I find the piece very dark and breathy much like a Zoot Sims or Stan Getz feel. I've been into playing some of the fifties and sixties jazz samba pieces which is why the Meyer has served me quite well. However, what still bothers me about the piece is the "clarinet" sound I have in the top registers. The sound also seems to come out a little "flat" where there's no overtones evident.

I have ordered a Jody ESP .90 to try to hopefully get a somewhat brighter sound and more full in the upper registers. I would love to hear anyone else's comments who's played a Meyer and their experiences from it.
