Ok, this is the first recording i have done with my quartet, and it was playing with one of my friends on tenor, Andrew Blain.

We've been together since Febuary, just jammin' really, not playing gigs until now. This is a recording we did to find problems and eliminate them before the gig. We were mucking about alot, so you'll hear some high *** altisimo and alot of out of tune stuff, just listen past it.

The band was:

Piano: John Fleming (Also plays tenor and bari, hopefully he will sign up here)
Bass: Dave Mclellan
Drums: Michael Brians
Alto Sax: Adam Jackson (Me)
Tenor Sax: Andrew Blain

I am looking for places to host a few 2-3 MB files, i can only host a few on my free account.

As the links become active the files will be available for download.

1. Doxy
2. Blue 7
3. So What (http://adam.xflarenetwork.com/SoWhat.zip)
4. The Chicken
5. Groove On (Original Composition by Elliot Murray, Scottish Jazz Genious). I was loose around the kit, so i was hitting some cymbals.:D

I must also point out our tenor player had no music, only chords, and wasn't familiar with alot of the tunes, so please forgive his mistakes, and mine.:D

We are a really young band.

John [Piano] is only 13, Dave [Bass] is 14, Michael [Drums] is only 16, and i'm [Alto] 16 also.

Andrew Blain on Tenor is 17.

If you have any constructive criticism, i would be grateful to hear it. (And yes, i know me and the tenor are miles out of tune.:D, especially Blue 7.:()

Webspace and downloading time for sure are an issue. Consider using an MP3 converter to compress the files. You can download one for free here: http://www.dors.de/razorlame/download.php.

I could not play the clip, my Windows Media Player terminates the replay without giving a specific cause for the error. Anyway, keep going and have fun!

Thank you!

Ok, i've edited it, and it's working fine now.

The file size is now only 1.8 meg, and the song is 7 mins long.

Hi Adam, it finally worked! It is not necessary to zip the MP3 file, you do not gain much in this step because MP3 is already a compressed format.

In the melody chorus the horns should play the second note of the two note "So what" motiv short, like the piano in the first bars, and by all means stop the note simultaneously! Tuning can be improved, but also the timing in the group. If you use altissimo, make sure it is played well. If it is out of tune, it is better to stay in a range you can easily master. It is hard to keep a long solo interesting, playing a shorter solo is the most simple solution for this (should not be a problem in a 7 minute piece). I hope you find this constructive. Great that you record yourselves for criticism, and I think it is a promising start. Maybe you should try to find a "band coach", a pro or advanced amateur playing any band instrument, who you invite to your practise sessions and who could give you some tips for playing together and make the most of the sum of your talents.
