Hello, everyone.
I've got a question.
I'm using a Beechler Custom #7 metal alto.sax mouthpiece because I like Dave Koz's sound. I want to have the sound of the saxophone player, Dave Koz. Did Dave Koz have his mouthpiece refaced by anyone?
Please let me know.

His sound come from his personal chop, in which everyone is different. And then hours of practice as well as the tone that he heard in his head. And then the equipments, the mix in the studio. If you want to sounds like he does, play along with his recording.

Most pros at Koz' level run all their pieces through their favorite refacer. Given what can be done internally to a piece, a C* can sound like a meyer, a diamond inlay can perform like a dukoff, etc. Its hard to guess what his mouthpieces really look like on the inside.
xuanvu said it, spot on. The more you listen to players that you like, the more your sound will gravitate towards them. For instance, I write/arrange also. Listeners often say that my songs remind them of some other musicians.
Its not that I am trying to copy another's work. But sure enough, they have nailed my primary influences on more than one occasion.
Your influences will naturally come out in your music. Careful analytical study of Koz will help you sound more like him.

Beechler is a good mp . It will give you the sound you want . Give it a good long while to break it in . When I wanted a Sanborn sound(20 years ago) it took at least 6 months to get really used to the Dukoff . The first week it just squeeked .
