has anyone played an ebonite Lawton mouthpiece on alto? How do they compare to the metal mouthpieces? I'm looking for probably a 7*B in ebonite.

Hi,
I've got alto Lawtons:
7 Plain ebonite (out on loan to lead alto player)
7* B ebonite
7* B Special (bronze)
6*BB Icon (bronze)
7*BB
Hey, that's more than I thought ! I find that my favourite one is the 7*B as an all round flexible piece and there is very little to choose between the ebonite and the metal. I think the ebonite is a bit more comfortable in the mouth for me but I most often play the metal for a little bit of extra "zing" in the sound.
The 7*BB is bright but not very subtle, but the Icon has a much richer sound - just wish it was a little larger tip opening.
Lawtons are great - got them on soprano down to bari. All beautifully finished and I've not had a bad one yet (mostly off eBay)
All the best
Rhys
