I recently bought a vintage HR otto link and it smells like a tire fire.

I looked up this topic and didnt find much at all. I was just wondering if it's dangerous at all. Smells really toxic, and after a sesion I can taste it.

Seems this is common with HR pieces but I've never had it this bad before - you can smell it metres away.

Any advice/info would be much appreciated. Thanks,

Jimmy.

Try giving it a bath in mouthwash. You can also try brushing all the surfaces, inside and out, with toothpaste.

its the sulphur leaching/oxidizing from the HR. Its supposed to be a sign of quality hard rubber (fewer plasticizers) it's one of the reasons Santy Runyon told me he went with a composite material, he couldnt' stand the smell.

Try a denture cleaning tablet like Efferdent. Acouple of tablets and some warm water and a good long soak. Should taste minty fresh for a while.

I would also try a little silver polish to smooth things out and maybe some kind of dental wax on the outside. I know that smell form my first Conn eagle soprano mouthpiece. The booger was sort of a green/brown color.
