V 16 tenor mouthpiece is a bright piece as know. I wonder if want to get a little bit more dark, rich, fat, and lush sound on this MP like a Metal Link, what reed & ligature you will try ?

I just got a V16 T75 for trial. I compared it to my 7* STM Link. I think these things have been mentioned here before (many times) but I'll do it again =) V16 is more projecting and a bit brighter than my Link. Link has got a deeper and a "dirtyer" tone. So V16 sounds clean compared to my Link. I like 'em both. I think I'll keep it.

In the package there were two papers, one to "register" your V16 and one to get free V16 reeds. That's what I call good service! I understood that Vandoren recommends to store this mpc in that fabric bag which came with it?

To get a darker sound I also recommend blue box Vandorens and you can adjust the reed a bit higher than normal.. if you know what I mean.

You could try a Rico Grand Concert Select reed and I suppose if you want 'darker' than the very excellent Optimum lig that comes with the V16, you could try a Rovner.

Thanks a lot good information.

I think I will try Blue Box Traditional & Rico Royal first to hear how's the sound.

I think V-16 sounds more contemporary no matter what reed to use. May be hard to make it sounds like a good Metal Link (I mean such kind of Dexter sound, fat, dark & lush sound)

BTW, I wonder if a Selmer 404 lig can fit to a V-18 ?

Yes, Selmer lig works fine with V-16, but it adds more brightness. So for a darker sound I would consider a fabric lig (Rovner or BG).

You can also make your sound darker by using different tonguing. I've heard a pro player demonstrating this. He got a very bright sound out of his metal Link just by tonguing differently and also a dark sound by changing his tonguing.

I play a T95 and like it alot because of its versatlity. It definately has a more contemprary and brighter tone than a link. The reason i reallyu like the V16 is because its possible to get a "personal" sound with it. Some pieces I own are hard to shape but easy to play. The V16 is not necessarily hard to play but it does offer me some room to develop a personal tone. I personally try to play very bright with it and when a situation calls for a darker sound I cover the reed and play darker. One of my friends plays a V16 T75 with vandoren blue box and he sounds VERY dark. He gets a very linkish sound from it. I get more of a breckerish sounding tone from mine. So my advice is to try the bluebox reeds with a cloth rovner type lig and really work hard on the V16 to make it sound how you want. It will with time.

Which Pro (tenor player) is famous to use V-16 ? So far I just know Andy Snitzer. He said it sounds like his old Metal Link (I'm surprise !).

Although I DON'T think a V-16 can sounds like a vintage Link sound, his sound still very unique & special for me.

Andy's using a V16? I didn't know that. Cool.
Everyone's right about the Vandoren blue box reeds. I've found that any french cut reed helps darken it. Everyone's diffirent though.
If you don't like french cut, try your current reed in a harder strenght.

I've got a T95 with the Selmer lig, and it plays really well. I used to play this regularly a couple of years ago, and you can get really deep into the sound---it is flexible that way like a good Link. ANyhow, I take it out every now and then but it is too much of an adjustment for me to go back to it. (Switched to hard rubber...) But, its nice to have it around if needed...

Try a Rovner Mark III lig on it. WW&BW sent me one of these by mistake (I ordered a Dark for soprano), and I've decided to keep it. It really does fatten up the sound.

Selmer Lig for V-16 tenor MPC. Do yuo mean Selmer 404 lig (sliver color)? I wonder if 404 lig can fit a V-16, seem the MPC is a big bigger.

I just got a T95 through a trade and I'm looking forward to playing it on a dixieland job Thursday night. I'm using it in place of an SR Tech Legend, which has a great dark sound, but doesn't project very well. Even though it's an indoor job in a nice club with a house sound system, I need a little more push to my sound. I do find the T95 rather dark overall, but versatile. The SR Tech may well be on the trading block soon.

V-16 Tenor MPC sound more spread, that's what I agreed.
