Anybody know?...does a Brancher metal lig. fit on a metal Quantum mouthpiece? ...also, a Francois Louis?
Thanks!
I don't know about the Brancher, but the FL will fit. However, it tends to slip around a lot, unlike on some other metal mpcs, and is a bit of a pain. On the Quantum, I actually like a Rovner better since the Q is such a bright mpc, at least to my ears.

I would hate the lig. moving around like that - partly the problem with the stock lig that comes with it. Is the Rovner you use, the "Light" version, and which model is it? I've been worried about using a cloth lig as I sort of like that bright, edgy sound and wouldn't want to cut down that much on it. Thanks!

On Quantums I use Rovner Lites, Rovner MarkIII and Winslows. Configured properly, the Winslow is the brightest and most responsive. The Rovners filter a few of the highs out. Depending on the particular MP and reed, one of these ligs will be better than the other two, but I'm splitting hairs. The Rovners are so inexpensive, I like to have a bunch around. They are the best bang for the buck.

Thanks" Mojo.." - I agree, even the "light" Rovner's dampen the highs some. I had been wondering if there was a Winslow model that fit..used to like it on a tenor mpc I had one time, but sold it along with it. ...thinking, to save time and$ might time again to get another Winslow. Thanks again!

Winslow has sizes for all mouthpieces. I took a chance an snagged a used metal tenor Winslow off eBay. It was too tight for my Q. So I took the stiffener plate off and put it on the outside of the ligature. This was a pain, but it works fine.
On my bari Qs, I used a HR soprano Winslow for years. But my soprano missed it so I purchase a bari Winslow lig to fit. It is the same diameter but about twice as long. Does not sound different but it does slip less on the big reed. I favor a 3 point contact cushion arrangement.

Is that the metal Q or the plastic Q?
Last night I was considering ordering either the plastic Q with spoiler or the Vandoren Jumbo Java. Neither comes with a lig and I was concerned that my Rovners might not fit. I settled on the Jumbo J because in the Rovner ads on Music123 they mentioned compatibility with the Jumbo J but said nothing about Runyons. I could not even get info on suitable ligs from the Runyon site.
I ordered the Jumbo J this morning from Music123 finding they had only one T75 left (mine) and they had knocked off 10% on all Vandy's. The Q is still very intersting. If a Rovner 2R or 8L will work on it, I may get it the next time I need a change.

Thanks for the info. on Rovner lig.s - great! I also found a couple of stock Dukoff ligs I had: a tenor and an Alto one. Anyway, turns out they both fit the metal Quantum. Now, to my surprise, the alto one sounds the best - could be just an anomoly of that one lig, but, in a pinch or until one got a better lig, could get you by, etc. (they're nickel, I think). As far a the fellow who's curious about the "Q"s...they're a fine mouthpiece - very professional sounding. They also have a lot of volume(even more with the spoiler in)and an amazingly easy bottom end(even with spoiler)and at least a normal to fine altissimo register. WW&BW would let you return it in 45 days if you didn't like it. I've played Jumbo Javas and Javas - they're fine, but I think you have more mouthpiece with a Quantum, IMHO, of course!

Is that the metal Q or the plastic Q?
I have one metal Q for bari, and several plastic ones for bari and tenor. The metal and plastic take the same ligatures. They do come with Runyon Ligatures when purchased new. They are cheapo ligs but usually work good enough to test out the piece.
On tenor Quantums, a Rovner L-12 is often recommended. I find them a little tight when using Fibracell reeds. The L-13 is better and fits the bari Quantums too. (These are the Light Ligs).
But the Rovner Link supplied above should have the best current info.

MojoBari,
Is the metal Q for bari a darker piece than the plastic ones? Or are they about the same.

The metal Q is darker than the Delrin. The Delrin is a little too bratty in the low register for my tastes. I'm mostly playing big band lately. The Delrin and Spoiler are good for working with an amplified band. But the metal Quantum with a Spoiler is not shabby.

Thanks ... That sounds like what I want, I'm doing some fill in on occasion with a R&B group, but mostly been working with a small "Mulligan/Davis" like combo. With the Spoiler it'll give me both.
