I'm seeing a 135xxx alto today. Owner claims the neck is originial, but the neck does not have a serial number on it. Were some VI's manufactured with no s/n on the neck? Thanks for any input.

A 135,000 should have the number on the neck unless it was made for the European market. But, it was getting very close to the last revision of the Mk VI (around 140,000) which is when the neck number was dropped, so it could have been shipped like that. Take the octave rocker off the neck and see what three digits are scratched under the big 'S'. If its the last three digits of the serial number, its the original. Sometimes you'll find an original neck that's a few numbers off. This is because sometimes they play-tested horns with different necks from the same shipment to find the best combinations. I have a 186xxx tenor like that.
