Fellas, just received the Rev. D I got on eBay the other day:

In fact, it's a '51, serial number 9071. I was glad to find out it didn't have the weird rocking octave key thumbrest.

Anyway, I now see why folks have talked these horns up. Have been playing a nice '45 Buescher Big B Aristocrat and a '50 Conn 6M, and really like 'em both, but this is my first venture into a Paris-made alto. It's glorious. Upper and lower registers sound very consistent, no muffled D's--just rich, sweet, robust tone.

I am one satisfied customer!

Welcome to the board - and welcome to the club! I watched that horn through aucion a couple of times - it is a super fine example. Far nicer in shape than the beat up one (Rev. D alto) I bought (for a song) last year. I just got mine back from the tech last week and can only echo your sentiments! I am getting used to the rocking thumbrest - now I just need to adjust to the absence of high f-sharp key!

Thanks for the welcome. The seller of this horn bought it new in the early '50s from his teacher, who was also an SML rep, George Barton of Minneapolis, MN. Apparently Barton was a well-known society band leader in the Minneapolis area at the time.
