View Full Version : Late TTs versus NA Altos (or tenors...)

Hello to everyone.

I am looking to buy a Buescher NA since that seems to be - as far as I have learned - something like a "refined" "Deluxe" Buescher True Tone - same sound, better intonation, slightly better mechanic. I did fall in love initially with Bueschers after having had a chance to play on a 109xxx gold plated TT with modified mechanic (roller G# spatula, High F) which I liked very much. The tone was very dark, centered and kept the same "presence" in every dynamic range and register. Still, intonation and the mechanic was an issue for me where I am not sure if I could get used to it. I do play a number 5 old Zinner custom - nearly classical - mouthpiece but play mostly Jazz which works very well. Before, I have been constantly playing french manufactured saxes like Selmer BA, Buffet SDA and most recently a SML Rev. D (which I intend to sell now in order to purchase a Buescher). I did also try a later Aristocrat with 280xx serial number but felt that it was in a way radically different to the TT - the sound seemed to be more spread, less centered and brighter which did not work so fine for me.

Any advice or opinion about the differences, similarities and advantages/disadvantages of Buescher TTs and NA are very helful to me at this stage. Many thanks in advance and all the best, Wayne.

There's been a fair bit of discussion on this topic (I've been part of it too as a TT/NA owner). Here are 2 threads:

...or just search "new aristocrat" on the Search page.

Many thanks, Paul. I didnīt find this posts before. I think it answered my questions up to that extent that I play different NA and compare them to the TT I liked very much.
