Ok, I have my SX90 w/ low A in one of those anvil style Pro-Tec cases and it s#cks. he case is fine but it is heavy and kinda tough to lug around. I know it was covered before but the short memory forces me to post a few questions on that Bam Bari Contoured with the wheels and handle.

1. Will it fit the Low A Keilwerth?
2. Best place to buy with the best price?
3. Who is using them and what do you think?
4. Other alternatives?

Thanks

Buy a Winter aluminium flight case, they are made to fit the JK Bari saxes, they also fit the Conn Bari's too. These will give you much better protection than the Bam will.

Thanks Boot. Well since nobody has any insight on the Bam Case can you tell me a good place to buy one of those aluminum cases. Does it have wheels and all that stuff?

THanks

Roberto has the BAM and so does Barone, I think. Very form fitting and no pockets to store stuff (need a padded sack to fit down the bell). They are flight case quality, but you would still want to carry it on. I have not had to fly with my bari. I opted for a lower cost, lighter Altieri bari bag. It has some plastic panels in it so it is a notch or 2 better than a soft bag, but still very light. It has been working out well for me, but is not in the same league for protection as the BAM.

Speak to Stephan Boesken in Germany, he can organise a case for you.

Like Bootman and Randall I bought my straight SX90R tenor from Stephan. I can't say enough good stuff about him. Great prices. Great work. All around good guy.

JJ,
The case is exceptional. Email me if you want any pics. I would love to have a straight tenor case in the Aluminium like the Bari case but with extra catches.

At the NAMM Show this year I was able to get a good look at the BAM Bari case. Carole from BAM went through the case with me, explaining it in great detail. It looks great and appears to be very sturdy.

I like that it has the backpack straps and nice wheels (for the airport). What concerned me was the hinges. They look to be light weight and are riveted to the body of the case. Also the trim around the edge of the case concerned me. Carole assured me that the trim (the area where the top and bottom of the case come together) is held in place by a large tab that runs under the foam interior. She also told me that no one has returned a case due to failure of the hinges.

That being said, I liked the case a lot and may get one for my Conn Bari.

I asked Carole all the questions about opposing bell keys, large bells, Keilwerth etc.. She told me that the cases are fit to Selmer's and other horns may fit. There is a large hollow area where the bell keys would go, so I too believe that they may fit. She also assured me that if the case does not fit certain vintage instruments, returning them is no problem.

Hey there guys,

Before the forum outage, there was a message in this thread with a link to Winter cases. Anyone still have that link kickin' around? I'd like to take more of a look.

Thankso mucho,

Hello, does anyone have any pricing information on the Winter Cases and whether they will fit a Buescher. Thanks

Which model Bueshcer? If it is an older model then they don't fit. A Winter case will fit a Selmer, Keilwerth and a Conn. Martin Magnas also don't fit in a Winter case.

What case would be best for a Yamaha 62? Will it fit in a Winter?

I use the new BAM for my Yamaha 62. It fits like a glove.

I just got my bam case today, I have a silver plate martin bari, that was wonderfully overhauled by Steve Goodson, and it fits like a glove, I was worried at first, because I had to push the lid a little to get it to close down around the case, but this is good, because it will allow the foam to take shape to the contours of the horn. It is very comfortable, I wont be able to live without the backpack straps:)

Any pics of the Martin Bari in the Bam case?

no, I am sorry Bootman, I do not have a digital camera. I wish you could see it though. My parents have a digital camera, so perhaps I will take a pic this summer and put it up. The BAM case is a definite winner though. I would go with it just for the comfortable backpack straps. I know being in college and all my oppinion may not be as valued as others, but I honestly believe that having the most protective case on the market is not the end all be all in saxophone protection, the biggest protector is the owner. Making sure to always have your horn with you and to treat it like something you actually care. That is why I would say if it came between the Bam case and one that may or may not protect it better, I would go with bam for the straps or wheels. Lets face it carrying a bari around is not desirable. I know alot of you travel and want more protection, in that case I guess you would need a more durable case, but just know that know matter how much you protect your horn, you cant protect it against neglegent or abusive baggage personel.

The main point for concern is that no matter how careful you are something or someone will always knock your Bari in the case or drop the case. Realistic protection against such situations to protect your exceptionally expensive (and in my case rare Bari saxes) is critical. Forward planning and thinking can save you thousands of dollars.

I only say these things because I have had horns damaged like this in the past. It is one of the worst feelings in the world when you open your case and the horn is broken right before an important gig. It is for this reason that I put up with a little extra transportation weight. It is the only real safe guard that I know of.

Truman, is this the silver fiberglas BAM case or one of the lighter ones?

Hey jjgold.

It has been a couple of months since you asked about a aftemarket case for your SX90. What did you finally decide. I am very interested as I am going through the same proces with my JK SX90 bari. Luv the looks of the BAM case, however, I can't seem to get a consensus on whether it fits or not.
