I realize that posting puts me in a weak position as far as price goes but what the heck.
I love my SX90R tenor and my Selmer alto is doing a fine job but I thought if somebody wanted to get rid of there straight horn I might be able to help :)
There is a guy on eBay trying to sell his for $2500 and he has had no bids and this is his 2nd post as far as I know , so I think that is to high .

I don't really think that price is high, it's just that there a small market for those horns. Everyone I know that has owned one loves it.

Sorry guy's not being funny but $2,500 for this excellent horn is nothing, USA horns at the mo have one and are asking $4,500 for it, these horns are now rare even though they are newish. You will be very lucky to get one, if you do get one expect to pay premium price for it !!!!!

I bought mine for $2500, kept it a few years, then sold it for $2500 a few years ago. I liked it but don't miss it. DAVE

I found a very nice SX90 Black Nickel for $1850 . What people want and what they get are two different things .

As a previous Keilwerth straight alto owner, I agree with Dave D. Cool horn, but I don't pine for it. It is a well made sax with a unique tone, and I dug it immensely, but over time its shortcomings (bad pun...) outweighed my enjoyment. Chief among them is the fact that it simply is unwieldy to play. I could never find a comfortable way to hold it without somehow compromising the action. It always conjured up images of Beefheart playing a vacuum cleaner... But it truely is a beautiful beast, and they are no longer being made. I don't know what the untimate production run was, but I have heard it was not much more than 300 horns total. So, you figure it out. A straight SX90R for $2500 in nice shape sounds pretty fair to me. These horns are scarce and in time they will be very collectible. If you can afford to hang onto it, I suspect it will appreciate a great deal. And as a backup alto, it is a real gasser - big fun. I would not want it as my only alto however.

OK for now.

Flipside,
gd

Just to let everyone know there are currently two for sale on the internet E-bay at £1,750
or $3,065.21 (14/04/06) from a music shop over here in the UK that has used it as a display piece. The sax looks stunning, the more of these I see around the more the price seems to keep going up.
USA horn have one also at the mo for around $4,500 "WOW" what a price!

$4500. Wow!

I didn't pay that much for my SX90R straight tenor. But I only got plain lacquer.

Wow you have a Straight Tenor, apparently the Keilwerth Straight Tenors are as rare as Hens teeth, try finding one, the alto's are a bit more common, according to a few facts I saw recently only as little as 300 alto's were made if you can believe that, I'm still not sure that I can believe that figure is correct, I know there are a limited number of both the Alto's & Tenor's, anybody know the exact figures of manufacture?
