I'm looking for a Peter Spriggs Floating Rail ligature priced reasonably. Please let me know if you've got one you're willing to part with.

I think you can still get them from Peter for $90 Canadian.

I've never seen this lig before. I wonder if the bass clarinet model will fit a tenor sax mpc?

I can vouch for these ligatures. I have them on my Bb and bass clarinet, and they are terrific. I haven't tried the bass clarinet model on tenor sax - I suppose it might fit some hard rubber blanks. I bought mine direct from Peter Spriggs.

It looks similar to the FL lig. Is the main difference in the reed plate?

Phil - yeah, it looks like an FL with an independent suspension system. :D

Actually, the appearance of the Peter Spriggs ligature is similar to FL, because they both have thin metal cords around the side of the mouthpiece, separated and held in position by parallel tubes. The main differences are the reeds are held by two separate "floating" metal rails on the Spriggs lig, and the FL has one solid semi-curved plate. Also, the Spriggs lig tightens from one screw on the top of the mouthpiece instead of the screw under the plate like the FL.

Thanks for the descriptions. That's what it looked like to me in the picture.

My brother used to have one for Bb sop. clarinet. It was very nice but not his cup of tea. This lig is much older than the FL and more elegant as far as I am concerned. The rails on the side are solid not hollow and much sturdier in appearance. Also there is no plate for the ree, but as the name suggests, floating rails which move independently. Very clear tone and response for the reed. In his catalogue I believe he makes one for alto sax as well. If you e-mail peter he will tell you what it fits.

I hope that this helps, I feel like I haven't slept in days.

i have a Peter Spriggs floating rail ligature for two years on my bass clarinet and it is fantastic for solid responce. better i think than my Eddie Daniels on my bass clarinet because of the much needed clarity without fussing around with it. i play tenor sax but only with metal otto links so i can't tell you if it fits on rubber tenor mpcs. just by eyeing it a bass clarinet mpc is much wider than any tenor sax mpc i have seen! maybe not.

just by eyeing it a bass clarinet mpc is much wider than any tenor sax mpc i have seen! maybe not.I stopped by the local music store last night on the way home and compared a bass clarinet mpc to a tenor mpc, and noticed the same thing - a bass clarinet mpc is much larger around. It's been many years since I sat next to a bass clarinet, and I had forgotten. Oh well, I'm going to email Mr. Spriggs to see if he makes his lig for the alto sax.

Bass Clarinet will also take some Bari Sax ligatures (ones that fit hard rubber - large chamber bari MPs).
