I just bought my SX90R tenor in black nickel to replace a Yamaha YTS-875. The JK tenor is definitely the saxophone for me, especially with the gold over bronze latwon BB8*.

I'm thinking about getting an alto also - I learned to play on an alto but after high school I switched to tenor and soprano. That was some time ago. The band I'm playing in now is pop/rock/acoustic. I'm looking for edge and richness - the tenor is doing it for me, will the SX90R alto do it too?

I bought an SX90R tenor a month or two ago, and loved it. Switching back and forth with my Yamaha 61 alto was no fun because of the very different keywork. Also, I've grown to love the big sound of the Keilwerth. So, I bit the bullet and bought an SX90R alto also. Other than a sticking pad, that I hope is fixed now, I really love it. I bought the dark gold lacquer over nickel plate, and the sound is warm, but with a very powerful edge. Very, very nice horn. The intonation is perfect, and with the Jody Jazz ESP, I think it is a very flexible sax.

The keywork that felt a little awkward at first on tenor, seems just right on the alto. I couldn't be happier. I'll keep my Yamaha for sentimental reasons, but I'll be playing Keilwerths from now on.

Yes, George, the JK altos have the same qualities as your tenor.

Hello George,

my alto is a sx90r, nickel, gold-lacquered. I play it with a wooden Lebayle Jazz 6*, using Superials 3 or RJS 3S.
The sax has very powerfull sound and good projection whether you play pp or ff. I love the sax. I played a YAS62 before and I don't want to switch back.
Test the alto if you can. I am sure you come out with the sx90r.

George,

Just got my new JK SX90R alto saturday(nickel plated with gold keys-clear lacquer). GREAT SAX! I cancelled my order for a new silver plated Yamaha Custom Z. I love this horn a lot more than my silver plated Selmer Series II, which is a very good sax in it's own right.
