Please forgive me, but I'm new to the Sax in general, and the one I picked up is a Wurlitzer C Melody. I intentionally got the CMel, because I also play (mostly Irish) music on the flute (classical and Irish) and piano accordion, so I didn't really want to deal with transposing instruments.
It is a Wurlitzer with a curved neck like a tenor, Serial number 157054. How can I go about determining who may have made it?
Thanks!

It is going to be one of these top 3: Buescher, Martin or Conn. If it does not have bevelled tone holes (significant taper at the top of the hole), it is definately not a Martin. If it doesn't have a "Mercedes" style key guard of the low C key, it is most likely not a Conn. If neither of these features are present, it is probably a Buescher. Every "Wurlitzer American" C-Melody or C-Soprano I've seen was made by Buescher.
Finally, the best thing to do is go to www.saxpics.com and compare your sax to the pictures of the manufacturers.

Thank you for the pointers!
Also, after poking around here a little bit more, I found another posting here which mentioned the beveled tone holes, which my sax has...
So, it looks like it's a Martin. Now, is that good or bad? <grin>
Thanks!

Martin made great horns. I haven't played any other C-Melody so I can't say whether Conns or Bueshers play any better.
