To my knowledge, the 6M's weren't being produced until around 34-35? Did you get a transitional? $450 is still good though.....older ones that I found work well with the 6M"s are the Brilhart Tonalins, Personalines, and even the newer JodyJazz models.
This same topic was addressed in the Conn area awhile back, I'll post my reply. Congrats, 6M's are nice horns. btw your horn's serial number puts it around 1932.
I have a Jody Jazz 6 which plays very well on my 6M, with the spoiler it will give all the cut and projection you could ever desire, it's much darker but focused with the spoiler out.
I have several Meyers which hold the intonation decently but I can't slide them all the way on the microtuner cork and tune the sharpness out without having the microtuner almost adjusted off the horn, I believe the Meyers will play darker than your needs.
A Selmer C will play perfect on the horn, I've added a baffle and spoiler to get some projection and cut but it's far from being a jazz mouthpiece.
I sometimes use a older ARB 6 which works quite decent with the horn, it plays on the medium to bright side, it could be made a little more edgy with possibly a spoiler.
I hope this helps. Good luck with your quest and please post back your results.

Wasn't Charlie Parker's setup a Conn 6M with a Brilhart Tonalin(White) mouthpiece? 8)

One of the best sounding combos I ever heard was a battered 6m alto my teacher played ( he was a tenorist ) with an old Brilhart Ebolin - it really sang as lead alto in a section. Wish I had that horn & mpce!

Yeah, Those Tonalins can set you back a couple of hundred or more for one in playing condition. 8)

Also what kind of reed should I use? I like the 20's jazz sound. I am currently using VanDoren #3's and they just don't get the job done.

Try switching to a softer reed. I prefer the Rico Jazz Select reeds....try a 2.5 soft or medium and see where they land you. Softer LaVoz might do it for you too...
Parker did play a 6M with Brilhart Tonalin....Saxquest has a few very nice pieces for around $300....they'd probably get you started.
As far as the teacher with the 6M goes.....don't wish you had the equipment....wish you had the skill! More than likely it was your teachers embouchre and breath support that gave him that tone...although the sax and mouthpiece probably helped him along the way ;)

Dang...$300 on a mpc...almost as much as the horn. Are there any good jazz pieces that aren't that expensive?

Would a Guy Hawkins metal, Lakey Jazz 5* , or Bari Richie Cole model me good?

It wasn't todays (cheapo) Ebolin - it was a serial number Brilhart I'm guessing from the 1940's. In retrospect I'd say the sweet sound was small chamber.
