Bought a CD by this cat some time ago, a two-LP-on-one-CD "The Hip Walk" and "Happy Girl" with some great tenor sax and flute playing. Are there any more recordings?

Email him. He is teaching and administrating at University of Pittsburgh currently, and can be contacted through their website.

I'm a Pitt grad who played in the Jazz band and studied with Nathan for six years. He's really a great guy. I call him my musical "daddy". He's originally from KC. He spent about 10 yrs in Europe in the 60's playing with the likes of Kenny "Klookamop" Clarke, Eric Dolphy, Woody Shaw and Joe Henderson. He came to Pitt in the late 60's during the infancy of the "Jazz studies" movement because he wanted to provide a more stable life for his family. Many of the musicians he played with and admired like Clarke, Art Blakey, Roy Eldridge, Billy Strayhorn and more came from Pittsburgh so the city's Jazz tradition intrigued him. He's been doing an annual Jazz seminar for over 30 yrs that brings some top artists in for a week of workshops and a concert at tne end. It's a great learning experience. Although Pitt's undergrad music program isn't that strong (I wasn't a music major) The experience of studying with and knowing Nathan Davis has been, as the commercial says...priceless.

A good recording to look for is "Rules of Freedom". I 'm pretty sure it's out of print.
