I Have this Jupiter alto 767-769 out on a rental from a music store and I am considering purchasing it for about $600. I do not have much experience with saxes. Horn seems to play really well and is in "near mint" condition. Just wondered if anybody had an opinion on this horn. I'm sure I could get one cheaper on e-bay but there are always risks and possible hassles with online purchases. Any advice / opinions on this horn?

I own a Jupiter 769 alto which I got brand new for US$700. I got it six months ago and haven't had any problems with it.
It played perfectly out of the box. No adjustments were needed.
I've been using it almost daily since and my experience is that it's pretty solid and reliable. I can get all the notes out easily even low C, B and Bb, as well high D, E, and F.
The keywork is quite decent to me but I haven’t had much experience with other horns.
I use a Selmer S80C** and it produces a nice, rounded metallic sound with #3 Vandoren reeds.
I’ve also received good feedback on the colour which is a nice reddish gold.
Oh, I dropped the neck a few weeks ago which resulted in the horn going out of tune but that was my fault. The tech fixed it easily and since it's still covered by a warranty I didn't have to pay anything.
I know some pro musicians who use Jupiter saxes.

The 767 is just a student model. In my opinion, I think if you are serious about playing the saxophone you shouldn't spend your money on a student model and invest it in a professional model.

I've been playing the 767 since 1995 and have had no problems at all. I started using it as a backup for my Buescher Trutone but have switched and don't regret it one bit. I use a Lakey 7*3 mpc and get a nice rounded sound with great projection.

Just to clarify that the last three digits are the commonly known model number, so this is a 769. Confusingly, the 767 Deluxe Series alto is a different model.
