Next week I'm going to play a Beaugnier soprano serial 20XXX. If the intonation and sound are as promised by the owner I will buy it. The horn needs a proper revision, but with all the comments (no so much, I know) I found on internet this sax could be a nice one.
But can anyone tell me how old this horn is? I guess it is one of the last horns Beaugnier made (production stopped in 1967) Are there owners of a Leblanc soprano that was made in the mid 60's. I might be a Beaugnier as well, so we could share some ideas.
If you want to see pics of the horn...

If I become the owner I certainly will post a review.

For the curious ones:
I bought the soprano. Most of the corks were missing, but intontion was still pretty well. It sounded nice (had to test it outside, on the park area of a zoo! :? )
My tech was surprised about the horn. For an instrument of this age it was in very good shape. Mechanic was ok. The silver plate is better/thicker then the one on a new Selmer. Everything was straight, toneholes were round, ... so maybe I'm going to have a nice horn!
He'll work on it this week (complete overhaul)...I'm becoming more and more impatient! Please, ease my mind!
To be continued...

I'm curious...
How did it came out the overhaul?

Believe it or not...I had my horn back after 3 months :x
But maybe my 'take your time' wasn't that clever! :)
The result... the sound is great. Less dark than before the overhaul (due to metal resonators). But still a nice, warm sound. It plays oh so light, some of the springs were replaced with stronger ones (low notes). Maybe I should call this one the 'butter-cutter'
The technician did a nice job anyway! 100% leakproof!
Still got slight problems with the high notes (palm keys) (certainly me! Or mpc-reed combination).
The C# is ok with octave + LH3, not on the 'normal' way. But besides that, the intonation is great. A bit more/less lip-pressure now and than and it plays lovely.
Now all I have to do is practise and practise. It's no alto
So, my conclusion, I bought a nice horn from a nice guy for a reasonable price! Although the deal was made on the parking of a zoo, this was no monkey business:D
I'll send you some pics!
How about the Chu?

I'm glad it worked out right..
And thanks for the "nice guy", I'm flattered.

The Chu gets played less now, because I stopped playing in that BigBand.
Still needs some work, but thats has to wait.

Have fun
