Will the Bb Baris fit in the Low A Gig Bags with a little modification? Looking for a good and inexpensive Gig Bag for a Bb Bari. Thanks

A mid-weight bari case is probably best. I use the trapazoidal shaped Protec bari case for my low Bb Mrk. VI. It fits that particular model horn like a glove. There is 0 movement , yet it is light weight, and offers protection a gig bag won't.

(Sorry, just had to try an emoticon)

I'm looking for a lightweight case for my Yanag B900 (low A) bari. The Yanag case threatens to pull my arm off after a while.
I agree about the inadvisability of soft gig bags, but what experience has anybody got with the lightweight shaped cases?
Are there any I should avoid?

Big Nick, the Protec case is OK.Quite protective for around-town use.Might need some extra padding inside.

I used a Reunion Blues for years. The problem with it, for me, was that it is designed to be set on the floor with the bell down. Several times I mis-judged where the floor was and dented over the lip of the bell. After the 3rd repair in 10 years, I looked for an alternative.

I decided on an Altieri "bag". The handles are on the bell side so the bell does not hit the floor first. The thumbs side of the sax faces the floor. But the bottom and half of the sides are reinforced with plastic panels like a rain gutter: |__|. I did add 1" more of my own padding along the bottom to get a tighter fit and to protect the floor side.

I got mine with back pack straps too, but I do not use them. (I use the single shoulder strap.) The other side has a huge zippered pocket which comes in handy for a stand, flute, etc. You can get it with the big pocket on both sides. It has 2 smaller pockets within the big pocket for the neck, strap, mp, reeds, etc.

I've used this bag for over a year now, and have had no damage. One still needs to be carefull though.

DD3 + Big Nick,
I have used my pro-tec case for over 2 years now and i used it to carry my B&S low A bari and my new low Bb Conn 12M. The case has done a great job of protecting both over the years. I lined the top of the 12M bell with a small towel just to be extra carefull. I would recomend these cases for there price as well!

ive got a bam case. i bought it because it was recommended to me by peers and teachers, and even my repair tech.

it works, but for the money i spent on it, im VERY dis-satisfied. it used to fit my yamaha 62. now my yamaha 62 moves around with an inch owrth of room inside, leaving me to install my own padding. not to mention the latches. one of them takes an eternity to work, because it broke. the wheels on the corner are mis-aligned, i guess, because the plastic braces have worn down in the middle to the piont were its almost eroded the black trim of the case.

when i voiced my concern, bam sent an email out to me saying that if the sax doesnt fit, i should have checked prior to purchase (when in fact, the cases padding itself changed). ive had it for two years now - and granted, it gets a lot of use on the metro, flights (6 flights in total) - but if i were to go back again, id do a walt johnso case in a heart beat. they have wheels too, and i think the material its made if is more durable.

be cautious when purchasing any case for your horn, weigh out price vs comfort vs durabiity, vs protection, and make the right choice for you.

oh yeah, and pay attention to the fine print on your warranty.

For the past 10 years at least, I have pretty much always used my
leather Reunion Blues gig bags to haul around both my favorite Conn
Bari AND my Silver Conn Bass with no trips to the tech to fix damage.
The soft shaped case allows either horn to be carried close to the body
thus avoiding collisions even in pedestrian traffic on campus. The bass
fits very nicely in the trunk of my car, does not slide around and has
always arrived at rehearsals ready to go. Granted, someone could
trip over it, step on it or drop something on it, but I always park it
against a wall in the rehearsal hall. NO problem.
