Hi. I won one of these mouthpieces on eBay, and I was wondering if any of you guys have had any experience with these mouthpieces. Are they just like the newer Vandoren Mouthpieces or better?

If it's the jumbo java, you'll get a nice sound of the David Sanborn genre.
If it's a java, you'll have a well made piece in the Meyer neighborhood.

Yeah, I play it ad I think it's great. It's not a jumbo java, it's excellent for classic music...try it with bg tradition or optimum vandoren ligature, it will work great (reeds n° 3)

If I remember correctly, Vandoren's "A35" signifies tip opening & facing length rather than model. So you could have one of several models designated "A35".
The V5 series has an A35 but comes in black. The blue ones are either Java which have rollover baffle, a bit brighter and louder than a Meyer, or the Jumbo Java which have a high baffle and are quite bright. For some reason these pieces never really caught on.
The V5 is the legit line, but the more open pieces (A45 and A55) have a modified chamber design with a bit of a rollover baffle for more projection. Steve Coleman and several other jazz players have used the V5 A45, for whatever that's worth.
