I just picked up an old ivory Runyon tenor mouthpiece with a 3xxx serial number. Can anyone help me with the vintage? Thanks...

Please describe your ivory Runyon tenor... is it very streamlined with a metal ring on the shank? Then it is an "SR".

Does it have a definite shank with "fluting" on the shank? Then it is of the old Conn Comet design. Santy made Conn Comets, and from the same blanks, some Runyon models.

Write me for photos. tenorman@teche.net

Does the Conn Comet piece have a dual chamber design?

It's definitely not a Conn Comet or anything like it. It is very streamlined, more so than contemporary Runyons, but there's no band.

Paul C, that sounds a lot like the old red Custom serial number piece you picked up a while back, had a smoother shaped to it, not quite like the SR, but different than the current Custom model.

Santy told me that was from 1936 or so? please correct me if I'm wrong. I do remember him telling me they dumped the serial numbers because it got too cumbersome.
