I have just bought my JK SX90II soprano in black nickel - it should arrive today. I am wondering what mouthpieces people have found to work well on this horn. I am looking for a rich, thick sound with a little edge - not overly bright, though.
My previous soprano was a Selmer SA80II. After years of playing, I felt it did not have the richness and warmth I was seeking. Up until now I was using a metal Link 8* with a 4S Jazz Select Filed reed - this came closest to the sound I was looking for on the Selmer.
But when I played the BN SX90II I knew it was time for a change.
Any help regarding mpc selection would be appreciated. I have an old Yani metal 9 that I haven't used in quite some time, so I will try that as well.

I love my Tenney hr Link on my silver plated Serie III. Easy to play, big saxophone sound, reed friendly. I have a JodyJazz 7 that really sounds good too but it's physically too narrow for my liking.

I agree on the Tenney HR Link. I use one on a Yani S990.

I use a hard rubber Vandoran S15 and S25. The S15 was recommended on Sax Alley as a Keilwerth friendly replacement for the standard Selmer C* which he said didn't seem to work on Keilwerth's.
The S15 is easy to play but I think surprisingly round & full with decent palm notes as well.

I agree on the hr Link, although I play an off the shelf piece. I did not like the metal Link on soprano, because it was too bright for my taste. If you want metal, try a Lawton P chamber. My SX90 (black nickel) came with a stock mouthpiece which was not bad either.

Another really nice piece I should have bought was a vintage metal Selmer. I tried an E. I'm not sure if that is different from the modern Selmer metal piece.

Welcome aboard! We're JK sop family. I have a Selmer SS "I", SR Tec Pro and vintage Selmer metal "F". They're different but I like them all. I tried a bunch of metal mpcs but SR Tec Pro is the best so far. But you have plenty of choices on HR pieces. Vandoren S15,S25 could be nice pick. Also Selmer SS, Beachler HR, Morgan, Barone's Vintage, JodyJazz,.... HR link & Bari HR could be good but you have to have good luck. Try as many as you can. Good luck!
