Ok I just got a T901 and when I play on the Yanagisawa 5 mouthpiece that it comes with it sounds fuzzy. Like airy kind of. Is it my horn, or are the Yani 5 mouthpieces not that great? I don't really need an edgy sound, I just want a nice clean tone. So would a Selmer C* or C** correct this? Does anyone else get a fuzzy sound on their Yani 5 mouthpieces?

When I got my T902 I also got that mouthpiece..
I don't think there's a problem with your horn. The mpc that i got was alright but you can't compare it to a proffesional quality mpc..
I think a good mouthpiece will make your horn sound just fine..

It's not a bad mouthpiece at all. Too narrow for my taste so I use a .100 on my T901. You may want to use a fairly stiff reed...as I recall the Yani 5 is maybe .077 or so. It shouldn't sound fuzzy, or at least no fuzzier than tenor is supposed to sound.

You probably have a bad reed and or ligature. The Yanagisawa mouthpiece is professional quality - and professional price if you ever want to buy one! I actually really like them, but of course its all personal taste. Nevertheless, it is a good generic mouthpiece, better I think than Selmer ones and you ought to be able to get it to play. I use something like a Vandoren 2.5 on it, and any ligature except the Yani one, which is pretty roughly made.

These mouthpieces are good and hang in with the rest. Good for classical but can hang in with a jazz set as well

Hi jason, do yourself a big favour the Sax is a lovely piece of equiptment however the mouthpiece and the neck strap is next to useless. If you want a great sound one that is very pleasing to the ear try a Lawton metal Icon plain chamber or one of Phil Barone's mouthpieces. Yanagisawa's really are first class instruments and they know most people will already have their own mouthpiece and neck strap. This is only my personal view and not intended to offend anyone.
