The yamaha does not have a sound module built in like the akai. Sound wise they sound the same if you plug them into identical moduls. They are midi-controllers. You can actually play anykind of synth that has midi.

Dr Sax is right, absolutely nothing different in sound, all depends on the sound module or piano synth or computer synth you use. they feel different and are likely to respond different, but no sound difference

They do feel a lot different to play, especially since the Yamahas have a plastic reed that feels like a normal sax setup, whereas the Akai has an oval tube that you blow into. The Akai is heavier and the weight feels more like a traditional instrument, though. I prefer the Yamaha setup (WX-7) since the mouthpiece/reed responds more like a sax. I had to make a partial plug out of cork for the air hole at the bottom of the controller to get the resistance feeling right.

I guess it depends on what type of intrument your talking about. A keyboard piano) for example , it is a bit fuzzier then a normal piano. They both have the same sound unless they were in differant tones. but fuzzier. Say your number key setting is on E Piano, there are two types of piano sounds on the keyboard. I dont know what the differance is. a keyboard has more then one sound, it is however, short out of keys, there are only 24 keys, while a real Piano has 88 keys. An electric guitar is fuzzier with all the AMp's hooked to it, it does sound good though, I like both accoustic and electronic. You can't hear the electric guitar without playing with the AMP connected to it. With an accoustic guitar you don't need an AMP. But only best in small audiances.

Electronic instruments, have more options and you can make it sound anyway you want to and get more creative with it. You can play the same song in two or three differant ways if you want to. Electric instruments help for bigger audiances as it's louder then a Non Electric Instrument.

I assume that when it comes to an electric instrument, including Yamaha ( I have heard mine as fuzzy so if you don't think so then that's ok but I know what I have heard on mine) people have recorded the actual sound of the instrument and somehow put it into the electronic keyboard or guitar for the sound. Iam not sure how that goes. Which probably explains the fuzzyness or off key (which is what some people like to say) I have never heard my keyboard be off key, but if it was pop, it was a differant version of pop, not today's version of pop etc. You see what I mean? I don't think you can go most places without a keyboard unless they already have the normal Piano set up for you. So I like the keyboard better and it makes things easier on me when it comes to vacation etc.( I dont mean to make that sound like it's the facts, or to sound offensive, this is just kind advice.) :) Hope I have helped.

I know this has nothing to do with Sax, but I hope it gives you somewhat an idea what to get with your type. I think it's the same for all instruments but I maybe wrong. So sorry. Iam also confused if you just mean all electronic instruments in general or if your talking about a certain type of electronic instrument. I may have missunderstood. sorry bout that.
