I have a 45xxx Super Balanced Tenor with the original neck. I love the horn but was wondering what improvements I might enjoy with an aftermarket neck.
I strive for a big, dark sound. My current mouthpieces are a NY ToneMaster opened to a 7, a 7* early Babbitt STM and a .105 Brilhart Tonalin.
Thanks all!

hey pilot,
if you like your horn so much, why do you want to improve it?
OK, what would you like to be able to do easier, than you can now? there must be something, or you wouldn't be here reading posts in the first place.
Tell us, we are dying to know!

"We" are all dying to know, huh? Have "We" been talking behind my back???
I said I loved my SBA, I never said it was perfect. I would be interested in things that would open up the sound even more and perhaps free up the low-end a bit. I'm not looking for added brightness or anything like that.
Which brings me back to my original, intentionally open-ended question: What benefits might I enjoy . . .

hey pilot,
nobody's talkin' behind your back.... what's there to say....
sounds like the Gloger neck will work well for you. And I would recommend trying a Martin curve for that horn.
You see Gloger makes all the design curves of each brand of saxophone. You can swtich curves and get some good results. The reason I suggest the Martin (my personal favorite) is because it's dark, big, bold and has a super responsive low end.
Now is it guaranteed to work for you? Not exactly, because you may have some other issues making you compensate for playing the horn you're not even aware of.. But trying another neck can certainly eliminate one very major component if in fact that is your problem.
Why am I not suggesting a SBA curve for that horn? you can try it, but the way I think, why spend money duplicating something you already have, yes it's true Gloger necks are a big improvement over the original design and yes you will probably get the very best intonation with alike neck, but I recommend the Martin because it sounds great on Selmers especially the low end and dark quality. Oh by the way you probably want a thick walled neck too, that's the darkest sound more of the fundamentals prominent (my preference too).
I can give you more info on the subject if you are truly interested. madduran@earthlink.net
