View Full Version : Jazz Piece for Tenor
I want a Hard rubber Jazz MP for my tenor. I'm looking for a HR that is really bright kind of like Gerald Albright or Jeff Kashiwa. Right now for jazz, I'm on a Thunderbolt Metal and it's almost bright as I want but it's hard to control. I play on La Voz soft reeds and Yanagisawa T900. I was thinking about an E. Rousseau Jazz. I'm in college so I'm broke and didn't want to spend over $80 for a MP.
Any suggestion would be helpful.

They're not hard rubber but they're in your price range:
Runyon Custom
Runyon Jazz
I just picked up a Custom with a spoiler and love it. Check out www.gigdust.com as he has some nice facing charts and mouthpiece info in a prettier format than www.runyonproducts.com.

What size piece do you want? Jazz or Studio model? I can get you one for $70.00 plus postage. Let me know if interested.

beechler diamond inlay (s model)
vandoren jumbo java

those would be the cheapest besides runyons.

What is the difference between the Jazz and Studio Models? I just want a size that easy to control and plays well. If I buy one, it’s probably gonna be a week of two. I have final exams starting at 2p.m. today :(

The Jazz model is like the classical models, only with a wedge baffle. The Studio Jazz has a long roll-over into a smaller "squeeze" chamber.

Are you talking about a chamber like the one on the Rousseau metal? I compared the JDX and Studio a while ago, and my memory may be fuzzy, but the only difference seemed to be in the baffle.

You have got to try the Vandoren Jumbo Javas. I love them If you want hard rubber and still have some punch, then there the BEST. Give Weiner Music a call I know they carry all the Vandoren Mouthpieces.

Wow, four years later! JLW might have traded in that sax for a wife, rug rat and a mortgage by now. ;)
