Its always really tough to try morgan mouthpieces so Im curious about the excalibur line for tenor. My alto 7E is very powerful. Is the tenor the same. I try to play with a Breckerish sound. The Guardalas, however are too bright. Those that play tenor excaliburs could you please describe them

sinkdraiN: I just received a Morgan 8EL for tenor. The sound is quite powerful in the low and middle registers. To my ears, the 8EL is not as fat and loud on the high notes as my Tenney Link STM. My guess would be that the medium chamber Morgan E would have more punch in the high notes. The 8EL is a nice, clear-sounding mouthpiece with good tone. It's just not as good for R&B as the metal Link. You can save a few bucks on the Morgan by buying b-stock.

sinkdraiN: I forgot to mention that I, too, like Brecker's tenor sound. The Morgan 8EL is not quite mellow enough down low and not quite intense enough (focused, bright) in the upper register to get the Brecker sound. I experimented with a baffle added to the Morgan and that made altissimo pop out better. But I think a tweaked HR Link might get you closer to Brecker than the Morgan. (The Brecker sound I'm thinking of is illustrated by his tone with Diana Krall on 'Just The Way You Are').
