When working on Sax Quartets or other arrangements what software have you found useful?

I've been working with Noteworthy Composer with good success, having templated AATB, SATB, SATBBs and other saxophone ensemble formats.

I have been using Encore. It is pretty straightforward.

Steven, do you have any SATB or AATB arrangements you would like to share?

Harri, I've been under Paul Coats tutorage for most of this work, and he has been encouraging me to write up te process as he has taught to me.

Over the next weeks I'll finish that article and get it to you. The theme we used was Gaudete, an early music vocal piece you may recall as having a brief progressive/pop fling sung by Steeleye Span in the UK.

I'll contact you directly how best to share this step-by-step project and potential additional charts to share.

is there any good freeware midi/composing software? I currently have noteworthy composer but since I have not registered it and do not have the money to register it, it prints out an annoying message on all sheet music. I heard there was a good freeware program out there, but I don't know what it's called.

Any ideas?

At USD $39 Noteworthy Composer is about as good as a deal as you'll find. It would be worth playing an extra gig to just clear the cash to register it. There doesn't seem to be all that much Freeware in thsi area when you check TuCows or other sites.

Personally, I'm very happy with Melody Assistant from www.myriad-online.com

Lots of features, easy to use, both Mac and PC versions and only $20.

Harri, I've got some SATB charts in Encore format, if you're interested. Got anything to trade?

I have been using Mozart Virtuoso for about a year and three months. I have arranged a sax quartet, and two arrangements for our entire sax section in my high school. I find it very simple to use. You may enter notes three ways: with a midi controller, clicking on an on-screen keyboard, or using the keyboard, which I find to be the easier way.

Afraid not at this time - I've neglected the Trio Format. But perhaps when I get the charts in process done!

Have a dozen jazz quartets and quintets, including standards and jazz classics. Some have evolved from well known composers and arrangers.

Sibelius 2. It's just a flexible as Finale and as easy to use as light switch.

I just composed a set of eight fanfares for concert band. Did five last Friday aft, two more on Sat. and one on Sunday. Did it straight into Finale - no pencil and paper at all.

It was the easiest writing I've ever done.
