Hi All:

I am brand new to the world of sax. It has always been my favourite intrument, and I have always wanted to learn to play something, so this was the obvious choice. My wife bought me a sax for my birthday, and has lined up lessons for me to begin, I'm very excited at the prospect.

The saxophone I am now the proud owner of is an Alto, and looks EXACTLY like the Selmer Super Action 80 Series II (http://www.selmer.com/gfx/product/M52.jpg)...

except... instead of the Selmer logo, it has the word "Recital" on it, with the number 0312 underneath. It has an "S" on the neck, but I have done extensive searches on the net and can't find an "S" that looks exactly the same (it's not the "Superman S" that you would expect to find on a Selmer, it's more like a calligraphy S). It also has a floral design on the bell.

Hoping someone can help me identify what I have, I can upload pics if needed...

Thanks

Josh

First, the closed parenthesis character busted your hyperlink. Removing it gets one to the photo you intended. Second, the photo isn't sufficiently clear to make an identification, IMO. It doesn't show the "S" on the neck to which you refer, nor are any of the markings clear. From the photo as shown, it could be any one of a large number of currently available altos. Finally, from your description of the marking, it seems it might be a Chinese/Taiwanese knock-off of one of the Selmer models, something very commonly done, but not always with a great deal of success. If you have more and clearer photos, share them for a better chance at identification.

I presume the "S" on the neck is actually a big letter on the octave mechanism. SInce your wife bought it for you, I suspect it is of Chinese origin. I doubt she would shell out the money for a really expensive horn. Plus it looks brand new.

On the other hand, Selmer does make a "Recital" series of instruments. A google search turned up this:

So how much did she pay for it? That would be an indication if it is a Selmer or a Chinese copy.

Thanks for your response. The picture I unsuccesfully tried to link to was a picture of the Selmer Super Action 80 Series II, not my sax. I'll try and get a couple of pics up in the next couple of days. Thanks again.
