This is really a test but I am going to try a J6 and J7 this week and will post my results. I don't know if I like this new forum but I'm an old DOG
I'm an old dog too, but so far I think it seems to work fine, just takes getting used to the format. Have a good day

I tried a 7J tenor on the Conn 10M. It played great -- medium tone color, loads of power, super shading and flexibility -- but was so close in style & feel to my Van Wie Meyer 7M that I just kept the latter. I later decided on a 7SB (small baffle), which is the next thing up in bite and edge while retaining the good playing attributes of the J.

I'm getting a J8 tenor tomorrow. It will compete against my slant Jon Van Otto Link. I'll post my opinions soon!

the Lambersons are here and there will be a taste test tonight and tomorrow night.I have a modern 7* link I just love so thats the mpc to beat. I could end up with a lamberson anyway ,I really only have my rubber Link and my NY Link which I probably won't be using much anymore. I'm off metal. My first GAS attack in a while.
Looking forward to hear your opinion. Have any of you come across some pictures of these pieces? Not much info on the web.

Son of, I eagerly await your evaluation. I came very close to trying an 8J and 8L Tenor... Very happy with my metal Link 10* though.

Did anyone tried the lamberson Sb alto model? How is compared to a Meyer NY med chamber?

I just got back an alto 7SB from Fred who refaced what used to be a 6DD. I'm very pleased with the result! I was using a Barone NY 8L while waiting for the 7SB. I think it may compare with a Meyer NY medium (or large) chamber.
The Lamberson 7SB is more open than the Barone 8. It is also brighter, but can still get mellow if you want. I play a LaVoz Hard on the Barone, and a LaVoz Medium Hard on the Lamberson.
Being primarily a tenor/bari player, I will need to spend more time on long tones before I really know what either of these mouthpieces can do, but I can see using both. The 7SB definitely projects better, the Barone has a sweeter sound.

Well I went over to Mike C's house last might. What a great guy. 2 hours flew by. It's amazing how fast it goes when your hangin with another sax player. Mike's got a great jazz sound. HR link on a Conn. Big dark sound. It was good to be able to play some pieces for him and get his feed back. We both thought the Lamberson J6 and J7 were brighter than we expected.. They were quite a bit louder than a HR link and a bit brighter in my opinion. I could easily see myself playing a R&B gig on one of these. I found them similar to a Morgan .110 L I have. They were good mouthpieces but they didn't blow me away. It was good to hear Mike play the ESP. I thought he sound great on it. Big fat dark clear sound. Mike did seem to like this Florida HR link I have but I'm not selling it right now so he didn't want to risk playing it too much. You know how that is! Well I'm glad I got to try some Lambersons finally. I now have that craving out of my system. Thanks, Mike for having me over. I look forward to coming out and hearing you play some time.

Well, the J8 didn't suit me. It is in Dr. G's case now. I think that though it is marketeed as darker and more vintage link like, it is none of these things. It is a great piece, but it is by no means dark playing on my horns. I'm still playing my Slant sig link. It wasn't even close.
BUT, this is still a GREAT mouthpiece and probably one of the very best on the high end market.. Just be aware that the descriptions on SOTW may not serve you well in actual performance trials. I also think i may have been happier with a 6J or 7J. remember, Lamberson pieces are about one whole size larger than otto links.

SOZ, I couldn't agree more. The Lamberson J is a great mpc. A J6 felt like my 7* link. They are not dark but loud and vibrant. As Nefertiti said ,you can do an R&B thing with these. Very well made,I did stay with my HR Link but would say that these are worth trying and play very well. They play effortlessly.
