I just won an SML stencil off ebay :D. I'm going to have it completely gone through by a really good tech up the road.

What kind of pads and resonators would get what kind of sound?

Also, what mouthpieces are people using, and why do you like them?

I plan on getting the full pro/neoprene/delrin treatment for this thing.

My GM 2 wil get a complete overhaul with top-tone pads in about 2 weeks.
Will let you know what the outcome is.
I expect it to be a tat brighter and bigger sound, because of the bigger reflectors and the harder pad surface.

Allthough it will not be a perfect comparison because the neck will be straigthend also.

MC Gregory Model A works very nicely on an SML tenor. Use Superial DC reeds for maximum tonal complexity.

A metal Link with Superials is also a good combo...

Man, I love those guys over at saxofoonwinkel...
My SML plays as good as never befor.....
Those Top-tone disks are SUPER.

I think they add just a tat more bright overtones (Hard to say after 4 weeks of playing an other horn).
This horn has got a lot more character.

How big were the resos you had them put in?

Good question...
I didn't order special reso's

The reso's they put in are silvercoloured flat metal.
They do not seem to be oversized...

Gold Medal I tenor, s/n# 17,5xx, using either Selmer C** mpc with Selmer lig or *new* Berg Larsen "ebonite" (non-metal) 120/2 mpc with the Rovner leather lig -- REALLY diggin this new set-up, getting a lot more out of the horn...

Tenor:
Gold Medal I, Mpc: Berg Larsen Bronce 110 2 SMS, Lig: Rovner dark, reeds: LaVoz medium.
Alto:
Gold Medal II, Berg Larsen Steel 105 2 SMS, Lig: Rovner, reeds: LaVoz medium.

I'm coming from the tenor where I like the setup. I was very unimaginative when I acquired the alto setup. Actually its o.k. for an aggressive sound. But as an alternative I'm looking for a new Mpc more in the direction of Paul Desmond's sound. Any suggestions? Or maybe I take the old "Riffault R4" mpc that I have (and like soundwise) and have it refaced.

I play on a GM Mark I, 17xxx that I got for $550 at a Sheriff's Auction back in 1997 (but that's another story :D )

For my setup I vary between a Morgan 7M, a Morgan Excalibur and a Ponzol II-V-I (thanks for the tip, Harri) depending on the music I'm trying to play and my mood..... Reeds are usually Vandoren V16, 2.5
