Ok I admit, I'm selling all my mouthpieces to try an expensive new one. Anyone have experience with the Ponzol M2? How does it sound like comparing to, let's say a metal Link?

Lawton or Ponzol... decisions decisions. :?

The Ponzol M2 is great, it feels like the tenor model with a spread sound. To my tastes, it feels too spread for an alto sound but it does feel great in the mouth. The Lawton has the centred sound that is favoured on alto and I have a 9*b here if you're interested.

The best metal alto mpc I have played of late is the JJ ESP #9, speak to Jody and organise a test drive for yourself.

i use an m2 alto mthpc once in a while. i had the high dropoff baffle machined out because it was way too tinny and lacked bottom for my taste. removing the baffle added depth and eliminated the tinniness. i really like it now. it is still very powerful, edgy and on the bright side. more focused sounding than my bright 45 jumbo java(depending on reeds the baffleless m2 can be as bright or brighter than this jj). the m2 is also very easy playing. i have a 90 and am usually comfortable playing 70-75 openings. my main piece is a 75 jvw meyer (which i've added a long low baffle to) and this meyer is much darker, rounder and has much less edge than either the jj or m2.

I just switched to a M2 (.100) from a Yani metal 5 (.082). I dropped to a 2.5 from a 3.5 strength reed and I love the sound. You can really peel paint if you want to, but you can also get a nice warm sound & blend with a section. I liked it so much I bought one for my tenor too.

I changed the Rovner lig to Francois for my M2 90. Much more cenetered, and flexible sound. I don't why but Ponzol and Rovner just don't fit, yet they sell them together.

Try A Plasticover reed on your Ponzol M2 and let me know what you find.

Well I got those plasties (2.5) on my Ponzol M2-90 and it worked great. More clear, compact sound, but still with great low end. I'm no pro but I think these Ponzols are well worth the money. Great altissimo, great cutting sound but with enough warmth. But you're right about that part where the sound tend to spread out - well I use Francois lig (instead of those cruddy Rovners) and it works great. These Rovner don't help a bit for Ponzols - tend to create a sneezy, stuffy sound. Harrison or Francois are the best..
