View Full Version : British/Canadian Selmer Alto?
I'v just been given the opportunity to purchase a silver plate Selmer alto, engraved on the bell it says: SOLE AGENTS BRITISH EMPIRE-EX CANADA, then has the Selmer logo, then under that it says; LONDON. The serial no.26xxx. I've never heard of this model before. The horn looks straight but needs a full overhaul, so I was unable to play test it. I was told it is from around 1930. Can any one help with some info on this horn.
Thanks.

All this is telling us is that the model was distributed by the British Selmer London company - they used to handle the French Selmer instruments as well as others they had made that bore the 'Pennsylvania' model name, that were from the USA I believe (Conn or Buescher). The 1930 date is quite plausible, but you'd need to describe the horn itself to nail it down. Why not have a look at the saxpics.com site and see if the horn resembles one of the models shown on there?
Thanks singlereed, from the saxpics site it seems like it is a "Pennsylvania", not exactly the bargain I thought I was getting, still it's a well made solid horn, the only thing I worry about is the intonation.
Thanks.
