I love my new JK tenor, except that the transition from my Yamaha keywork has been a challenge. I'm getting more comfortable on fast passages, however the right hand pinky key for C is very difficult for me. There just seems to be so much travel distance for that cup that popping the C out in a sixteenth passage results in a slur down from D every time.
Anyone have any luck with adjustments, key risers, etc. to help with this, or am I the only one who has noticed it?

Check for a leak or perhaps it is that your rh pinky isn't striking the C key cleanly.

Thanks, Boot. It's not a leak problem. When the key gets fully depressed, the C sounds fine. It just seems that with hands just on the small size of average, that, even though I strike the C key in a timely manner, the travel distance doesn't allow the cup to close fully by the time the note is attacked. Don't know if this makes sense or not.

I think it is just a matter of getting used to the new and different key layout.

I have eased the spring tensions on my JK. I know it doesn't relate exactly to what you describe, but having reached for that key, if the action is lighter it's going to be a whole lot easier when you get there!

Morry,
A thumb rest that positions your thumb a lot lower might solve your problem.
I think I've seen adjustable thumb rests advertised somewhere. If I can find them again and let you know.

Yeah, that makes sense because that would rotate my wrist down relative to the C key. If you find it, let me know, and I'll look also.
